- Achalasia (Cardiospasm)
- SYMPTOMS. Signs may include difficulty in swallowing that gets progressively
- more difficult, possible chest pain and nightly regurgitation of undigested
- food that, if inhaled into the lungs, may cause lung abscess or pneumonia.
- CAUSES are unknown at this time. Food and drink fail to pass freely into the
- stomach because the lower end of the esophagus does not relax normally.
- TREATMENT. Surgery may be required.
